Three former teachers of Marxism-Leninism and an Olympic gymnast from the GDR look back at their lives and upheavals after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Reflecting on the overnight obsolescence of a once esteemed profession and the disorienting collapse of an ideological foundation which underpinned society for generations, interviews in homes and former workplaces are intertwined with personal mementoes, archival footage, educational films, and TV programmes from the heyday of the socialist state. An intimate, decidedly empathetic tone allows the past to reemerge as both still vivid and bygone.
